Welcome! This is the website of Frank Goodman, lifelong singer/songwriter, now from Portland, OR.

I say now from Portland because, perhaps like you, life has taken me many places. My past includes The Goodman Brothers, my nom de plume Buzz Holland, Mesa/Boogie, Nashville, Shanghai, Miami Beach, Heidelberg and other places. My brother Billy and I (who lives and plays in Berlin) made music and records together for many years as The Goodman Brothers, which frequently included the talents of celebrated guitarist Steve Kimock.

My last record is Ranchero Radio, produced by Dan Eccles. You can stream or purchase it here in various forms. Also of recent note is the CD Broken River, wherein our friend Donna Jean Godchaux MacKay (RIP) invited us to Muscle Shoals to cut some sides with her favorite players. I hope you enjoy these recordings, as well as many others included below. Please do check out the Videos below the CDs, they are all of special interest.

Rose Esposito and I have lived in Portland happily for 16 years. We've played hundreds of gigs together, from duo to sextet. As a life partner, I couldn't have asked for more.

Thanks for coming! Feel free to drop me a line. Frank Goodman frankxx11@gmail.com

Years in the making, Ranchero Radio is a product of the chemistry between Portland Singer Songwriter Frank Goodman and Producer Dan Eccles. Frank wrote and sang the songs, and played guitar and bass. Producer Dan Eccles did most of the rest, along with some outstanding Portland talent. It's a unique pop record that reflects a life of playing various styles. Great musical friends in Portland made huge contributions to this record: Sean Oldham drums (all but #1) Joe Chiusano bass (5,6,11) backing vocals (5,11) Paul Brainard guitar (3,5,8) trumpet (8), piano (8) acoustic lap guitar (8) Lewi Longmire bass (1) Ralph Huntley piano (11) Scott Van Squoik trombone (1) Gregg Williams drums (1) backing vocals (1,10) Engineered and Mixed by Gregg Williams.

Instigated and conceived by our friend Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay, this joyous recording was done in legendary Muscle Shoals, AL at the Nutthouse, the domain of Grammy Winning Engineer Jimmy Nutt. David MacKay produced and played amazing bass, Rob Malone killed it on guitars, Pete Lavezzoli shone on drums and percussion, while Freeman White lorded over keyboards and he and Donna Jean sang like birds. We tracked 5 tunes in two days, and Donna Jean and Freeman White composed and tracked beautiful background vocals on Day Three.

Acoustic Blues Songs

It seems to me that there are a lot of acoustic blues players, enthusiasts and fans in the world, and not enough good blues songs getting added to the mix of traditional blues favorites. This is my humble contribution.

Peter Monk was a Grateful Dead family member who married Jerry Garcia and Mountain Girl, and who wrote 'Passenger' with Phil Lesh, 'Rich Man Poor Man' for Peter, Paul and Mary, and other fine songs. We were friends in the 70's and wrote several tunes together then. In recent times, I set a few more of his many great lyrics to music. This disc includes contributions by talented friends in Portland and Nashville. Just press Info for credits and lyrics.

This is an Americana album. It was not considered such at its release, but the goal posts moved as time went on. I always knew what it was, and is. I hope you enjoy it.

I cut the rhythm guitar and vocal in Portland, with Ron Rogers. Then my celebrated friend Thomm Jutz and his stellar crew cut the rest in Nashville, and sent it back to me to recut the vocals to the band. That's Mark Fain on the upright bass, Lynn Williams on drums. J.T. Brown sang background vocals, except for "Whole Lotta Country." That's my friend and co-writer Peter Cronin. Engineered, mixed, and co-produced by Thomm Jutz.

Stellar recording of Nashville "A" team veterans playing the jazzy songs of Frank Goodman, at a golden time in Nashville, 2000. RIP Michael Rhodes, Ian Wallace and Kenny Malone. Co-produced by Jack Irwin, who also played keyboards, vibes, and drums.

12.10.22

Greetings. My first blog entry.

I am an avid correspondent, so this is natural to me. I will endeavor to be less long-winded in this domain, however. In two days, I have a biopsy to check out a growth in my prostate. It's early detection, but will probably require radiation of two months. So be it. I turn 70 in 3 weeks, on New Year's Day. I have a song "I Was Born the Day Hank Williams Died.' I must get around to recording that. But it requires a solid Country or Bluegrass treatment-might need to appeal to Nashville for that one.

This is my new website, on Bandzoogle, I like it. Very DIY, which is what the doctor ordered. I think this Blogzoogle provides an opportunity for people to post comments, so please feel free to do so. And Welcome!
